Funeral services for Goldie B. Elverud, 91, will be 10:00am, Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church in rural Volga, SD. Visitation will be from 4pm until 7pm, on Tuesday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.

Goldie B. Olson was born on February 27, 1918, in Lake County, South Dakota, the daughter of John L. and Emma (Eggebraaten) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Prairie Queen Church in rural Nunda, SD. Goldie received her education in rural school in Lincoln Country School in Lake County, and was a graduate of the Rutland High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Elverud on September 25, 1940 in Sioux City, IA. After their marriage they farmed south of Volga until 1943, when they purchased a farm in Lake County. They continued to farm the family farm until Lloyd’s death on October 5, 2007. Goldie later moved into Dakota Sun in Volga.

Goldie was a member of the Lake Campbell Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and was very active in the church, Church Circle and was a Prairie Village Volunteer. She enjoyed her big garden, canning, raising chickens and quilting for the family and for the relief programs through the church.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children Thomas (Diane) Elverud of Volga, SD, Graydon “Chip” (Karen) Elverud of Rapid City, SD, Janice (Gary) Rudebusch of Watertown, SD; her grandchildren Elaine (Robert) Kilber, Eric (Sue) Elverud, Heidi (Thomas) Chandler, Tamara (James) Williams, Trinity (Brandon) Emineth, Rudy (Sheila) Rudebusch, Chad Rudebusch; her great grandchildren Patrick, Zachary, Lindsey, Sadie, Shane, Jackson, Colton, Peyton Elise, Andrew, Noah, Hannah, Grayson, Addison, Lexington, Ethan, Hunter, Brandon, Darren, Tyler, Kaitlynn; one great-great grandchild Zoey; one brother Clayton Olson of Rugby, ND, nieces, nephews, and one sister-in-law Clarice Elverud of Volga, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one great grandson Nicholas, three brothers Orvin, Chester, Joseph and two sisters Lillian and Viola. Goldie died on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Brookings Health System.
